Natural monument quarry near Sporke

The Natural Monument quarry near Sporke is 0.19 ha large natural monument (ND) south Sporke in the town of Lennestadt . The area was created in 2006 with the landscape plan Elsper Senke - Lennebergland. No. 2 identified as ND by the district of Olpe . The ND is recorded in the geotope cadastre of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The ND is an abandoned limestone quarry with remains of the archaeologically and culturally significant Spork Cave or Monarch Cave . In the ND there are also remnants of limestone grasslands . The limestone is a Devonian reef that is around 380 million years old .
