The nature trail along the Ruhr is a hiking and adventure trail in the Mülheim city area.

The educational trail leads from the Aquarius water museum through the natural and bridge landscape Ruhraue and along the Ruhr to Haus Ruhrnatur . The Ruhr is crossed on a section of the Lower Ruhr Valley Railway (so-called “Blue Bridge” 51 ° 26 ′ 17.8 ″  N , 6 ° 51 ′ 49.7 ″  E ) that has been reduced to a cycling and hiking trail .

Large parts of the Ruhraue are fenced in due to the production of drinking water through bank filtrate and cannot be accessed. However, this also means that the fauna and flora remain largely undisturbed there. Wet biotopes in particular were created artificially and then left to nature; some of them can be seen from the edge of the path. Other parts of the site are used for agriculture, mostly as grazing land for cattle and are also not accessible.

The nature trail is equipped with 17 information boards. Both the Aquarius water museum and the Haus Ruhrnatur offer excursions on the nature trail.

It was financed by the Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerkgesellschaft , which is also the sponsor of the two museums at the endpoints.

Until the end of 2011, the nature trail was a stop on the route of industrial culture , the theme route past and present of the Ruhr .
