Mannersdorf Desert Nature Park

The Mannersdorf Desert Nature Park is located in the municipality of Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge in southeastern Lower Austria , is part of the Leithagebirge landscape protection area and represents a local recreation area on the edge of the Vienna basin . The name derives from an imprecise translation of the Greek word "eremos" as "hermitage, Desert ", which became popular.

Location and landscape

The nature park is characterized by oak and hornbeam forests on the slopes of the Leithagebirge . His main area is on the site of the 1783 by Emperor Joseph II. Abolished the monastery of the Discalced Carmelites "St. Anna in the desert ”. The area is enclosed by a 4.5 kilometer long wall.
