The Medvednica Nature Park covers part of the small Medvednica mountain range north of the Croatian capital Zagreb . The highest point is the Sljeme . Medvednica is a very popular recreational destination for the people of Zagreb, as it can be reached from the center within a very short time.
A direct translation of the name would be something like Bärenberg . ( Bear corresponds to the Croatian medvjed ).
In January 2005 , the first women's alpine ski slalom race - the Snow Queen Trophy - took place on Zagreb's local mountain .
