Sandstone Vienna Woods Nature Park
The Sandstone-Vienna Woods Nature Park is part of the Vienna Woods and is located in the municipal area of Purkersdorf in Lower Austria , it is under protection and freely accessible all year round. The 77 hectare nature park is directly adjacent to the urban area of Vienna , its highest point is the Rudolfshöhe (Vienna Woods) at 475 m.

The area of the sandstone Viennese forest is dominated by beech forest .
Built sights
There is a nature park center, the so-called Wienerwaldhaus, with exhibition space, including the Duckhütten in the Wienerwald, a kind of specimen for retired forest workers up to the 19th century and a wood laboratory as well as deer, red deer and wild boar enclosures and a petting zoo. There is also a nature trail describing both plants and various stones, which begins opposite the “Purkersdorf-Gablitz” train station and ends after around 1.5 kilometers at the nature park center.
Around 1977 the nature park association “Sandstein-Wienerwald” built a 28.5-meter-high wooden observation tower on Rudolfshöhe. It was completely renovated in 1999 and renovated in 2009. About one kilometer to the west-northwest is the 425 meter high Schöffelstein , on whose summit a memorial stone was erected in honor of the “Savior of the Vienna Woods” Josef Schöffel (see illustration).
