The Schöffelstein is a 425  m above sea level. A. high elevation in the Vienna Woods near Purkersdorf. It is considered a " local mountain" for the Viennese, as it can still be reached by public transport from Vienna. The hill is named after Josef Schöffel , the “savior of the Vienna Woods”, who successfully fought against clearing and deforestation in 1872 .

The Schöffelstein can be approached from the Lower Austrian community of Purkersdorf via a marked forest road. A memorial stone erected in honor of Josef Schöffel stands on the summit .
