Southern part of the Gamla Köpstad nature reserve

The nature reserve Gamla Köpstad is a nature reserve in the Swedish province of Halland County , south of Varberg .

The coastal strip off the towns of Gamla Köpstad and Träslövslege was placed under protection in 1972. The nature reserve is classified Natura 2000 and an important breeding area for sea birds and waders, fishing and fishing are not permitted in the area. It is divided into two separate areas.

The southern part ( Gamla Köpstad Södra ) includes the approximately 3.8 kilometers long coastal strip and the offshore mudflats and wetlands in front of Gamla Köpstad. The area comprises 1.6 km² of water and 2.7 km² of land.

The northern part ( Gamla Köpstad Norra ) is located north of Träslövsäge, includes the two islands Rödskär and Svartskär and the surrounding water area. The area is divided into 0.36 km² of water and 0.48 km² of land.

On the outskirts of Gamla Köpstad there are some information boards and an observation tower from which you can overlook the southern part of the nature reserve.
