The nature reserve Hafen Grimberg (NSG identification GE-002) is located on the eastern border of Gelsenkirchen , south of the Rhine-Herne Canal . It is bounded in the north by the same, in the east by the logistics park Schloss Grimberg in Herne, in the south by the Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck-Herne railway line and in the west by the industrial facilities of the Grimberg harbor. At the same time, it is in green corridor D, which runs in a north-south direction . The Bochum ore railway just touches the southwest corner of the area.

The Grimberg nature reserve includes the land of the former Grimberg Castle , which was razed in 1961 and the ruins of which can still be found in part. In the area of the former palace complex there is a mixed oak, beech and maple forest, which is separated from the port facilities in the west and the canal in the north by birch trees of different ages. In the south, bushes and meadows used for agriculture adjoin the forest, in which there are still remains of old railway systems that have been overgrown by vegetation.

The dust pollution of this area from the neighboring heaps is considerable.
