The Kämchen nature reserve is located in the Simmerath municipality north of Lammersdorf .

description

There used to be a raised bog here , but now mainly birch forest can be found here. Calluna and peat moss are only very sparse representatives of the bog vegetation within the birch forest . In the northwest there is a scrub made of ash willow with pipe grass , bell heather and peat moss. The protection goal is to preserve the area through rewetting by filling in the drainage ditches and removing the birch trees.

Protection purpose

The habitats for many plants, fungi and animals in North Rhine-Westphalia that are endangered according to the Red List are to be protected . These biotope types can be found in this area: moors, wet and humid grassland, swamps, dwarf shrub heaths and natural and near-natural still waters .
