Mother stone cave nature reserve

The Muttersteinhöhle nature reserve is located in the municipality of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located west of the Bigge in the Finnentrop district of Altfinnentrop and southwest of the core town of Finnentrop. The nature reserve was designated on November 30, 2006 with the Attendorn-Heggen-Helden landscape plan. The nature reserve has a size of 2.60 hectares .
Habitats
The Mutterstein Cave is located in the nature reserve, the entrance of which was exposed in 1980 by the German Federal Post Office during cable laying work. The entrance was later buried again. In the cave there are aragonite crystals and eccentrics . There are also limestone cliffs up to 5 m high in the NSG. The small ferns Asplenium trichomanes and Polypodium vulgare were found on the rocks . The area is mostly forested with an oak and hornbeam population.
Protection purpose and protection goal
According to the landscape plan, it was placed under protection for scientific and geological reasons. Furthermore, to maintain a cave system.
The landscape plan also stipulated that the cave entrance had to be exposed again and that this entrance had to be closed with a bat grille. This measure should serve both the biotope and species protection as well as the experience of the geological peculiarity.
