The Usungeren nature reserve (also Uzungeren , or Uzun Geren ; Bulgarian Узунгерен ) is a Bulgarian nature reserve south of the city center of Burgas . It is part of the wetlands Burgas (English: Burgas Wetlands). It lies between the districts of Meden Rudnik and Kraimorie and the municipal village of Twardiza . Some historians suspect a medieval port and the fortress of Poros in this area .

description

The Usungeren nature reserve is one of the few protected areas in Bulgaria that also includes an area of land and sea. It is located in the easternmost part of Lake Mandra, in the Usungeren Bay of the same name. The rural part, in which the grass vegetation ( marshland ) dominates, includes areas of the Burgas district of Kraimorie and the village of Twardiza. In the west, the nature reserve borders on the majority of Lake Mandra, which has been dammed since 1962, in the south on the Strandscha Mountains, in the east and north on the nature reserve Poda .

The nature reserve covers an area of 211.10 hectares and was placed under protection in 2005. Since this eastern area of the Mandra Lake has a direct connection with the Black Sea and has been separated from most of it since the construction of the dam, it is often seen as an independent lake. After the construction of the dam, the water content in Usungeren changed, so that today the salt water content is very high.
