Nav cat ( Japanese ナ ー ヴ ・ カ ッ ツ ェ , Nāvu Kattse , dt. "Annoying cat") was a Japanese band .

Members were the singer and bassist Miwako Yamaguchi and the guitarist Naoko Iimura. When it was founded in 1984, the drummer Shino Furutachi ( 古 舘 詩 乃 ) was the third member. Her debut album Oyzac was released on the Switch label in 1987. In 1991 she made her major debut with the album Kanki ( 歓 喜 ) on the Victor Entertainment sub-label Invitation. Shortly after the album was released, Shino Furutachi left the band.

In 1992, Nav Katzen contributed two pieces to the OVA Video Girl Ai soundtrack .

On the 1996 album Gentle & Elegance , Iimura largely took a back seat and producer Yuji Sugiyama wrote most of the songs.

Internationally, the band became known primarily in the electronica scene through the remix albums Never Mind the Distortion (1996) and Never Mind the Distortion II (1997), on which the band's pieces were performed by European electronica musicians such as Aphex Twin , The Black Dog, Ultramarine , Global Communication , The Gentle People , Disjecta , Sun Electric , Seefeel , µ-Ziq and Autechre .
