Overview of the NAVSTA

The Naval Station Everett is a base of the US Navy in Everett , Washington on the northeast side of Puget Sound .

history

Preparations for the construction of the Naval Station (NAVSTA) at Everett began in 1983, when Secretary of State for the Navy (SECNAV) John F. Lehman suggested the establishment of a new port of war in Puget Sound as part of the Strategic Homeport concept . In 1984 Everett was selected from 13 applicants, and construction began on November 9, 1987. The pier was opened in June 1992, followed by the base in 1994. In the same year the first warships were stationed in the NAVSTA, in 1997 the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) was stationed there.

Investments

There are two piers in the base itself. The larger, Pier Alpha, is 494 meters long and 37 meters wide and can be used on both sides. Pier Bravo is the same width and slightly shorter. The outside of Pier Bravo serves as a breakwater , only ships are on the inside. The south-western end of Pier Alpha serves as the pier for the porter, as the water depth at 19 meters is only sufficient there for the ships of the Nimitz class .

Between Marysville and Arlington , about 11 miles north of NAVSTA, the Navy also operates the Naval Station Everett Support Complex with homes, sports fields, and shops for the base staff.

Stationed units

In addition to the aircraft carrier stationed in Everett, there are also combat ships for its protection. The Navy did not operate its own tugs in Everett for a long time , if they were needed, commercial boats were requested or Navy tugs were transferred from Naval Base Kitsap . However, the tug USS Defiant has been stationed at the station since 2010. In addition to the Lincoln , the NAVSTA Everett accommodates two destroyers ( USS Shoup , USS Momsen ) and three frigates ( USS Ford , USS Rodney M. Davis and USS Ingraham )
