Navegantes is a coastal and tourism town in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. It is located near Itajaí . The population is 50,888 (as of 2006), the area 111,461 km².
economy
The main economic drivers are fishing and shipbuilding. A container port in Portonave has recently started operations, including MSC , which also has a financial stake in the container terminal through a holding company. The container port is in direct competition with the neighboring Teconvi terminal in Itajaí, opposite . Goods from the state of Santa Catarina are shipped all over the world from both terminals. These are textile products, shoes and meat in refrigerated containers. Portonave started operations in 2007 and is designed to handle more than 1 million TEU container units. In December 2008, the Teconvi port facilities were damaged by heavy rainfall.
The city has an international airport, Navegantes Airport.
