The city of Naxos ( Greek Νάξος ( f. Sg. )) On the Greek island of Naxos is the administrative seat of the municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades . Together with the monastery Chrysostomos (Μονή Χρυσοστόμου) and the place Angidia it forms the municipality of Naxos ( Dimotiki Kinotita Naxou Δημοτική Κοινότητα Νάξου) in the municipality of Naxos .

The earliest traces of settlement in the urban area go back to the Bronze Age. Some of them are located in the Grotta district north of the city center and the adjacent sea area below the water level. The site gives its name to the Grotta Pelos culture .

The municipality of Naxos extends about 6 km along the northwest coast and extends in the north and south about 1.5 km and in the middle to almost 4.5 km into the hinterland. Local communities bordering in the east are from north to south Galini, Melanes, Galanado and Glinado and Agios Arsenios in the south.
