Nazario Escoto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nazario Escoto (* León (Nicaragua) ) was President of Nicaragua in 1855 .

Life

In 1850, José Trinidad introduced Muñoz Fernández to Julius Froebel , Nazario Escoto as the owner of extensive gold mines in the north of Matagalpa . Froebel reported that Escoto could not exploit his mines because the Indians did not recognize his exploration rights.

Escoto was a lawyer and Consejal (member of parliament) of the Partido Democrático (Nicaragua) . The members of this liberal party, to which Francisco Castellón Sanabria and Máximo Jerez Tellería belonged, made an uprising in May 1854, which was directed against the transfer of the seat of government from León (Nicaragua) to Granada (Nicaragua) by Fruto Chamorro Pérez . On June 16, 1854, Castellón Sanabria issued a decree prohibiting support for the government of Chamorro, based in Granada. In October 1854, Francisco Castellón Sanabria signed a contract with the US military service provider Byron Cole, which stipulated the delivery of 200 men, who were led by William Walker in June 1855 .

After Castellón Sanabria died of cholera , Escoto became temporarily president of the liberal Nicaragua.

Individual evidence

  1. General Muñoz introduced me to a distinguished citizen of Leon, the owner of extensive lands in the farthest northeastern part of Mataglapa; but having incurred the illfeelings of the Indians of that region, had been obliged to retire from it. This circumstance Don Nazario Excoto had just reason to lament, as he had to leave some rich gold mines behind; while speaking of these mines, he went to an ajoining room and returned with a little basket full of gold bars from that locality, which seem to form part of an extensive gold region, reaching form the sources of the Bluefield River nortwart to the valleys of the Upper Patook or Guaype, in Honduras.
