Nazmi Kavasoğlu (* 1945 in Istanbul ) is a German-Turkish writer and publicist.

Life

He received training as a teacher in Turkey . After two years of school service, he switched to the theater subject, where he worked as a folk actor and dramaturge. He has lived in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1970, where he initially worked as a fitter; then as an interpreter and adult education center teacher. Kavasoğlu later founded Merhaba magazine , which he also ran until it ceased publication. In addition, he published bilingual books. For some of his stories in the children's book My Grandfather is called Mustafa , he received the Konrad Adenauer Prize in 1984 and at that time was the first foreigner to receive this honor.

In 2005 his application for the post of migration commissioner of the federal government failed.

In 2007, Nazmi Kavasoğlu, who was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his efforts in the area of ​​integration, announced the establishment of a “Central Association of Turks who think according to the rule of law”, which, unlike many other migrant associations, does not want to define primarily through national or religious identity.
