Neal Blewett

Neal Blewett (born October 24, 1933 in Launceston , Tasmania ) is an Australian politician with the Australian Labor Party .

Life

Blewett studied political science at the University of Tasmania and Jesus College , Oxford . In 1974 he became a professor of political science at Flinders University in South Australia , where he worked until his entry into the Australian Parliament . From December 10, 1977 to February 11, 1994 Blewett was a Member of the Australian House of Representatives . Blewett became Minister of Health of Australia under Social Democratic Prime Minister Bob Hawke . In 1990 Blewett became Minister of Commerce of Australia.

From 1991 to 1993 Blewett was Minister for Social Affairs. From 1994, after leaving Parliament, until 1998, Blewett was Australian High Commissioner in the United Kingdom . After returning from the UK, he became President of the Australian Institute for International Relations in 1998.

From 1962 to 1988 he was with Jill Blewett. He has been with Robert Brain since 1989.
