Neapolitan waffles

Neapolitan waffles , in Austria called Neapolitan wafers or Neapolitan for short , are biscuits made from waffles filled with a hazelnut - cocoa cream . They were invented by Josef Manner in 1898 . Alternatively, the waffles can also be filled with nougat or milk cream.

The multi-layered flat wafers with thin-layered cream fillings are characteristic of the pastries . The name Neapolitan comes from the fact that the hazelnuts for the filling originally came from Naples .
