The Near East Foundation ( NEF ), formerly Near East Relief ( NER ), Turkish Yakın Doğu Amerika Yardım Heyeti , English American Committee for Relief in the Near East , is a development agency founded in 1915. It was formerly known as Ermenilere ve Süryanilere Amerika Yardım Heyeti (English American Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief ).

In 2010, the foundation moved from Manhattan to Syracuse University in the US state of New York , with which there is a close exchange through partner programs.

The organization began in 1915, when Cleveland H. Dodge , a group of New York-leaders led to the establishment of the Near East Relief, a response to the urgent request of the Ambassador in Constantinople Opel , Henry Morgenthau , of the Zuhilfekommen in the rescue of victims Genocide of the Armenians and the expulsion of the Greeks from Asia Minor and further deportations in 1915. In 1930 the NER was renamed the Near East Foundation.
