Necho I. ( Ancient Egyptian Nekau, Neku ; Assyrian Nikku, m Ni-ik-ku-u ; †  664 BC ) was born in 671 BC. BC by the Assyrian King Asarhaddon during his second Egyptian campaign as Assyrian governor and pharaoh (king) of Sais and Memphis . Asarhaddon's successor Ashurbanipal confirmed him again in 667 BC. Shortly after his confirmation, Necho took part as a leader in an anti-Assyrian uprising by several Nile Delta princes . The rebellion was put down, however, and Necho was brought to Nineveh to Assurbanipal, who then pardoned him and rehabilitated him as king in Sais. 664 BC He died in the battle against Tanotamun during the conquest of the Nile Delta. After his death, the other princes of the Nile Delta submitted to the Upper Egyptian Pharaoh Tanotamun.
