The Neck or Nothing Passage (English for all or nothing passage ) is a strait in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It runs between Desolation Island in the north and a previously unnamed group of islands 300 m to the south. The sea route connects Blythe Bay in the east with the western part of Hero Bay off the north coast of Livingston Island .
The name of the passage , which has been established since at least 1930, probably goes back to whalers who took this sea route to safety from the strong easterly winds in Blythe Bay.
