The Neckar Hammers are a German American football team from Villingen-Schwenningen .

history

Neckar Hammers was founded in October 1991 in Donaueschingen (Villingen-Schwenningen district) as Danube Hammers . The future club founders saw an American football game hosted by the Frankfurt Galaxy and decided to pursue the sport themselves and found a club, as this sport was not previously represented in the region. The team grew and almost reached the Bundesliga level, which ultimately failed due to the relegation games.

The year 2008 was a low point, when no competitive team could be provided and the team had to start again in the lowest division the following year. In 2011 the Danube Hammers association was dissolved and, connected to FSV Schwenningen, was re-established as Neckar Hammers. The reasons for this were, on the one hand, the lack of a venue and, on the other hand, a lack of young talent who could be better recruited by joining an established sports club.

The youth work has recovered, so in addition to the Seniors team, there is also a flag football youth as well as an U17 and an U19 Juniors team. The men's team has seen several rises since it was founded. The last one took place in the 2017 season in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. In addition to the Hammers, there has also been a cheerleading squad, the Blue Hammers, since 2018 .
