Necrolemur is an extinct genus of primates . She lived in the Eocene and died out at the end of this chronostratigraphic series . Fossilfindsare known from Germany , Switzerland , Spain and France , including well-preserved skulls made of phosphorites from Quercy .

features

Necrolemur was about 25 cm long, resembles a tarsier and was probably nocturnal and tree dwelling. The eyes and ears are large, and the skull is pointed. The large eye sockets are not separated from the temporal pits by a bone wall. The brain is close to the eye sockets. The skull is large and round, the shape of the brain, known for its stone core, with its small frontal lobes, is reminiscent of the brain of the tarsier. The olfactory bulb is larger than that of the Koboldmakis, the facial skull less reduced, the large occipital opening shifted ventrally (on the abdomen).

Necrolemur had a total of 34 teeth, with two options for the lower jaw tooth formula .

The thighbone , fused tibia and fibula , the heel bone and the location of the large occipital hole suggest that Necrolemur moved by bipedal jumping, similar to the tarsier .
