Nederlands instituut voor Zuidelijk Afrika

The Nederlands instituut voor Zuidelijk Afrika ("Dutch Institute for Southern Africa", NiZA) was an NGO based in Amsterdam that worked from 1997 to 2012 for the population of the countries in southern Africa . The organization has been called ActionAid Nederland since 2012 .

The institute was created in 1997 from the merger of three organizations that campaigned against apartheid and neocolonialism in southern Africa (including South Africa , Angola and Mozambique ):

  • the Instituut Zuidelijk Afrika (“Institute for Southern Africa”, IZA, 1994–1997) that emerged from the Anti-Apartheid Movement Nederland (“Anti-Apartheid Movement Netherlands”, AABN, 1971–1994 ),
  • the Eduardo Mondlane Stichting ("Eduardo Mondlane Foundation", 1969–1997), and
  • the from the Angola Comité ("Angola Committee", 1961-1976) arose committee Zuidelijk Afrika ("Committee for Southern Africa", KZA, 1977-1997).

The organization's archive has been located in the Amsterdam International Institute for Social History since 2008 ; it contains, among other things, stocks of well-known activists such as Sietse Bosgra ( Angola Comité / KZA), Conny Braam (AABN) and Klaas de Jonge .
