Negast is a district in the municipality of Steinhagen and is located about 5 kilometers southwest of Stralsund . The name Negast is derived from the name Nigas. The place is administered by the office of Niepar . Until 2011, the place belonged to the district of North Western Pomerania and, after the district reform in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is part of the newly founded district of Western Pomerania-Rügen . The neighboring communities are Wendorf and Lüssow.
Until 1990 the place had a rather rural character, after which numerous new residential areas were created.

Negast borders on the Borgwallsee , which supplies the place and the Hanseatic city of Stralsund with fresh water. The Borgwallsee borders on Negast in a north-westerly direction. In a south-easterly direction, on the opposite side, Negast borders the Krummenhäger See.
