Neil Young (soccer player, 1973)

Neil Young (born August 31, 1973 in Harlow ) is a former English football player . The defender , who played over 400 games in English professional football, then switched to coaching.

Athletic career

Young began his career in the youth of Tottenham Hotspur , where his brother Luke later made his first steps in professional football. There he missed the leap into the professional team and was only used in the reserve team.

In 1994 Young moved to the AFC Bournemouth in the third class Second Division . Under coach Mel Machin , he was an immediate regular player. Initially with the team in the relegation battle, it established itself over time in the middle of the table. In 1999 he moved to the final of the Football League Trophy with the team , but there they lost 2-1 to Grimsby Town . In 2002 he was relegated to the fourth division with the team, but the club only stayed there for one season and, after being promoted again, went straight to the second division Football League One .

Since 2005 team captain Young left after an injury break Bournemouth in November 2007 on loan to FC Weymouth in the Conference National . Upon his return, he was in the club's squad until the summer of 2008 before ending his professional career in England.

In September 2008, Young went to Australia as a player-coach for Cumberland United .
