Nelder circles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Nelder circles (English Nelder wheels or Nelder fans ) a test arrangement in plant cultivation (especially in forestry ) is called, which is based on methods of statistical test planning. The individual plants (e.g. trees) are planted in concentric circles, with the distance to the outer circles increasing according to precisely defined rules. The method makes it possible to determine the optimal planting distance with regard to a certain target size, e.g. B. to determine the trunk diameter with the help of a single test field. The basic work on this was published in 1962 by the English statistician John Nelder .

In Germany, the process has been used by the Chair of Forest Growth Science at the Technical University of Munich since 2009 on five test areas planted with English oaks ( Kösching , Beilstein , Győr in Hungary, Sant'Agata Bolognese in Italy). The project is funded by the Audi Environmental Foundation.
