Nelson (comic strip)
Nelson is a comic strip by Christophe Bertschy that was first published in 2001 : the young office worker Julie attracts Hell's attention with one trifle. She then assigns the little devil Nelson as a constant companion.

Because of a stolen roll of toilet paper or a chain mail that has not been forwarded , Hell sends the young office worker Julie the devil Nelson. This is a mean, clumsy childish goblin (diablotin). A few other characters are Julie's office colleagues and family members, her stupid Labrador dog Floyd and his dog friends, the little love angel Stupidon (a play on " Cupidon "), and the devil as Nelson's boss. Besides Julie, Floyd is particularly affected by the Nelson attacks.
History and background
The strip first appeared from the beginning of 2001 in the Swiss tabloid Le Matin . Originally in a two-tone design (black / orange) and aimed at an adult audience, it will also appear from 2004 in the Belgian comic magazine Spirou and in album form in the Éditions Dupuis . For this, the strips were colored afterwards. In addition to the French original, there are also translations in English, Dutch and Danish. In 2009, Dupuis published four French-language editions in the original two-tone design. These volumes were published in landscape format (a l'italienne).
Bertschy mentions comic strips from English-speaking countries such as Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson , Dilbert by Scott Adams or Mutts by Patrick McDonnell as inspiration . He had a small, intolerable character in mind, in whose weaknesses and inadequacies the readers should nevertheless recognize themselves. This character should not be a cat or a dog, as both are very common in this category. The figure of a little devil or goblin came out naturally. He first suggested the strip for the “Humor Libre” collection from Dupuis Verlag, which, however, decided to publish it in Spirou magazine, as it was suitable for the entire readership, and thus also for children. Bertschy says that the latter will get away with it, because Nelson is doing all the nonsense that children dream of.
Bertschy creates the strips with the help of a vector graphics program ; he says he needs two to three days for six comics a week.
