Nelson Correira

Nelson Correira is an East Timorese politician.

Correira was the spokesman for the Marxist-Leninist Partido Socialista de Timor (PST) in 2001 and was party chairman from 2007 to 2010. He was replaced as chairman by Avelino Coelho da Silva .

Correira is described as a Marxist activist with ties to the Indonesian Rakyat Democratic Party (PRD). He graduated in agriculture from the University of Jember ( East Java ), Indonesia . His father Tomás Correira was a member of the União Democrática Timorense (UDT) and during the Indonesian occupation administrator (bupati) of the Manufahi district (1985-1989) and head of the tourism authority.
