Nelson de la Rosa

Nelson de la Rosa (born September 6, 1968 in San Miguel , Santo Domingo , † October 22, 2006 in Providence ) was a Dominican actor with a height of 72 cm and a weight of about 10 kg. He was thus considered the smallest actor in the world.

De la Rosa starred in Italian horror films such as the lead role in Ratman (1988) in the 1980s , before gaining international fame in the mid-1990s. During that decade he was a guest star on Venevision's television show Sábado Sensacional in Venezuela and was later invited as a guest on Don Francisco's show " Sábado Gigante " (both Univision shows). The resulting popularity spread to other Spanish-speaking countries such as Puerto Rico , Mexico, and Spain .

In 1996 he had a small role in the Hollywood remake of Dr. Moreau , among others at the side of Marlon Brando . This role by de la Rosa is said to have been the inspiration for the Mini-Me character in Austin Powers .

He died at the age of 38 in a hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, after flying back to the United States three days earlier from Chile , where he worked in a circus . A heart attack is assumed to be the cause of death . He left behind his wife Jennifer and a then 9-year-old son.
