Neobuxbaumia mezcalaensis is a species of the genus Neobuxbaumia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Neobuxbaumia mezcalaensis grows individually and reaches a height of 5 to 10 meters. The columnar, yellowish green shoots have a diameter of 13 to 40 centimeters. The 13 to 25 ribs are wide and angular. The one to four slightly flattened central spines are straight, dark and only a little longer than the five to nine radial spines. The outstretched radial spines are whitish to yellowish, darker at their tip and 0.8 to 2 centimeters long.

The funnel-shaped flowers often appear along the entire stem. They are white to yellowish and purple in color and up to 5 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with humps with small scales and wool. The spherical to egg-shaped fruits are 3 to 4 centimeters long and studded with humps that carry persistent wool and thorns.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Neobuxbaumia mezcalaensis is widespread in Mexico .

It was first described as Cephalocereus mezcalaensis in 1932 by Helia Bravo Hollis . Curt Backeberg placed the species in the genus Neobuxbaumia in 1941 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
