Neolygus populi ( Syn . : Lygocoris populi ) is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 5.1 to 6.4 millimeters long. The species of the genus Neolygus are green and have an oval body, which is, however, less wide than that of Apolygus species. The spurs of the rails ( tibia ) are brown and arise from black points. The second antennae is longer than the pronotum is wide at the base. Neolygus populi can be distinguished from the other species of the genus by the paler, more blue-green basic color and the shorter antennae. The third antenna segment is very short and less than half the width of the pronotum.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is mainly found in the Atlantic influenced parts of Europe from Great Britain via northern France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg to the western parts of Germany. The exact distribution and frequency have not yet been fully researched, as there are too few reports of finds.

Way of life

The bugs live on poplars ( Populus ), such as gray poplar ( Populus × canescens ) and silver poplar ( Populus alba ). It is believed that one generation is trained each year. The adult bugs occur from June to September. The overwintering takes place as an egg.
