Church building

location

The church building (about 410  m above sea level ) is in the district of Bauern in Hohenems in the St. Johann parcel directly on Lustenauerstraße (L 203). The chapel is located on the former border of the dioceses of Chur and Konstanz, which still partially follows the border between the municipality of Altach and Hohenems. The chapel is only 5 m away from the parish boundary of Altach. The chapel is about 1.8 km as the crow flies from the center of Hohenems and easily accessible.

Building

The chapel is a simple stone building free-standing on all sides with a gable height of about 12 m (total height with bell ridge about 22 m). The chapel occupies an area of 70 m² and the nave is about 8 m long and 6.5 m wide. It is a building with an approximately rectangular basic shape and a recessed 5/8 choir in northeast / southwest orientation, whereby the prayer room and the chancel are very clearly separated from each other. To the northeast (altar) the outer walls are sloping.

The square bell ridge with copper cladding, four sound openings and a pointed helmet on the gable roof is located southwest above the gallery / entrance. The gable roof is covered with plain tiles. There are two arched windows above the entrance door and another small round window above. The nave has three more arched windows on the side (two windows to the southeast and one window to the northwest). In the choir there are two more arched windows. A small sacristy is built to the northwest of the choir .

The building itself is largely plastered in white outside and inside .

Furnishing

There is only a large crucifix above the altar . The statue of St. Josef was carved by Oswald Moroder in 1979. At the choir arch are two statues from Oberammergau , on the left St. Niklaus von Flüe and to the right of St. Johannes Nepomuk.

The pews are made of lacquered fir wood and are also kept simple. These offer space for around 60 people.
