Nersès Zabbara

Nersès Joseph Zabbara (born June 6, 1969 in Aleppo , Syria ) is a Syrian clergyman and Armenian Catholic Apostolic Administrator of Baghdad .

Life

Nersès Zabbara entered the seminary in Aleppo in 1990 and moved to Rome in 1992. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas . On October 31, 1999, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archeparchy of Aleppo of Armenians. He worked in pastoral care in the parish of Santa Barbara in Aleppo (1999–2002) as well as school director (2002–2004), pastor of the parish of the Holy Cross (2004–2016) and teacher at the Institute for Christian Theology in Aleppo. In 2016 he was appointed the Baghdad Eparchial Administrator.

On June 23, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Armenian Catholic Apostolic Administrator of Baghdad. Since May 10, 2019, he has also been Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem and Amman .

He speaks Armenian and Arabic as well as Italian, French and English.
