Nesiarch

The Nesiarch (os) was a functionary of the Nesiotenbund . He was first used by Antigonus I Monophthalmos , later by Ptolemaic rulers, and acted as a kind of island prince . Thus, advised by a council ( synhédrion ), he ran the affairs of the Confederation. Three Nesiarches are known by name: Apollodorus (before 286 BC ), Bakchon from Boeotia (around 280 BC) and Hermeias of Halicarnassus (around 268 BC).
