history

When the Ottomans subjected the male heads of household to a census in order to record the tax units, 19 Greek men were counted in Neta. The number of residents was 81 in 1891, when the British colonial rulers (since 1878) carried out their first census, but now included all residents. From then on, these censuses were made every ten years, with 111 inhabitants being determined in 1901. In 1911 this was 121, by 1921 there was an increase to 139 and by 1931 to 150. In 1911 and 1921 there was only one Turkish Cypriot living in the village, after that only Greek Cypriots until 1976 . During the Second World War, the census was dropped, but it was made up in 1946. Now 222 Greek Cypriots lived in the village, in 1960 there were 224. In 1973 205 of them lived there, in October 1975 there were 172. In August 1976 they were deported to the southern part of the divided island.

Before 1974 Neta was almost exclusively inhabited by Greek Cypriots. In 1975 the Turks renamed the village Taşlıca (rock). Its new residents came from Turkey, particularly from the Gülnar and Silifke districts of Mersin , as well as the Andırın district of Kahramanmaraş and finally the Karaman province . In 1978 there were 74 residents, most of whom were Turkish, in 1996 there were 95, in 2006 99.
