from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Netlib is a scientific computing library maintained by AT&T , Bell Laboratories , the University of Tennessee, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory . Netlib comprises a large number of different programs and program libraries. Most of the code is written in Fortran .

history

The project began in 1980 with the distribution of emails in the UUCP , Arpanet and CSNET .

The Netlib code base was written at a time when software was not yet a commodity. Therefore, there are no license agreements for most programs. Much of the code was written by US government employees and is therefore in the public domain. This also applies to SLATEC . The license of some other packages is not finally clear.

Netlib is indexed by the Guide to Available Mathematical Software .
