Lattelecom (formerly Lattelekom ) is a telecommunications company and Internet service provider from Latvia .

The Lattelecom Group offers information technology , telecommunications and outsourced business process solutions through all companies in the group. The Lattelecom Group consists of five companies: SIA Lattelecom, Lattelecom BPO, Citrus Solutions and Lattelecom Technology with its subsidiary Baltic Computer Academy. The Lattelecom Group is a leading provider of electronic communication services in Latvia and offers electronic communication solutions for private users, small and medium-sized companies, authorities and municipal institutions as well as large companies.

51% of the shares in Lattelecom are in state hands, the remaining 49% are held by the Scandinavian company Telia Company AB. For its part, Lattelecom holds 23% of the shares in Latvijas mobilais telefons , the largest Latvian mobile operator. The company is also one of the leading Internet service providers in Latvia.

history

The Latvian state telecommunications company Lattelecom (formerly Lattelekom) was entered in the company register on January 9, 1992. Almost two years later, on December 22, 1993, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia confirmed the Commission's decision to declare the British-Finnish consortium TILTS Communications the winner of the tender for the "Modernization of the Latvian Telecommunications Network". This made the company a strategic investor in Lattelekom. On January 14, 1994, the contract with TILTS Communications was concluded and SIA Lattelekom was launched. As a result of this partial privatization, 49% of the company's shares were taken over by two foreign investors: Cable and Wireless and Telecom Finland . Telecom Finland merged into the Swedish-Finnish telecommunications group TeliaSonera, since 2016 Telia Company AB. In the meantime Cable and Wireless had sold its shares in TeliaSonera. As a result, the privatized company share (49%) is bundled in Telia Company AB.

Until January 1, 2003, Lattelecom had monopoly rights in fixed line voice communications in Latvia. Since then, the Latvian fixed line telecommunications market has been open to competition. However, Lattelecom continues to hold the overwhelming market share.

Lattelecom Group

The Lattelecom Group consists of five companies:

  • Lattelecom: specialized in offering Internet, voice and TV services.
  • Lattelecom BPO: Customer Service Solutions, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and 1188 telephone directory services.
  • Citrus Solutions: as a product of the spin-off of the former network maintenance department from the parent company Lattelecom, it offers integrated network infrastructure construction and security system solutions.
  • Lattelecom Technology: integrated IT solutions and services. Subsidiary SIA Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija is a training and certification center offering services for information and communication technology (ICT) professionals and users.

Lattelecom Internet

Lattelecom is the largest Internet service provider in Latvia. Lattelecom offers different types of internet connections - broadband DSL internet, fiber optic internet and wireless solutions - Wi-Fi .

Internet via fiber optic

In 2009 Lattelecom began offering stationary fiber optic services with up to 100 Mbit / s Internet bandwidth. In September 2009 it was announced that Lattelecom had upgraded its fiber optic bandwidth to up to 500 Mbit / s.

Zolitūde was the first residential district in Riga to have Lattelecom's fiber optic internet service in January 2009, later followed by Kengarags , Purvciems , Plavnieki , Ziepniekkalns and other locations. Jelgava was the first city outside of Riga to have fiber optic internet, but by the end of 2009 other cities such as Daugavpils, Salaspils and others had access to the Lattelecom fiber optic service. Initially, the fiber optic network expansion took place in the new building areas in Riga and other major cities in the country; the reason for this was that the return on investment in the development of the network could only be achieved if newly connected buildings had at least 30 residential units.

The service is offered with GPON technology, which enables 100 Mbit / s from each connection point (apartment). In mid-2012, Lattelecom fiber optic internet was available to 425,000 households in Latvia, which corresponds to half of all Latvian households. The infrastructure covers more than 45 cities and residential areas.

Baltic Highway

The Baltic Highway was opened in 2012 as an important data transmission route. It guarantees the highest quality data transmission through the Baltic States , Poland and Germany with an extension to the Russian Federation . The project to build a combined fiber optic infrastructure was implemented by Lattelecom in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom and MegaFon . The Baltic Highway guarantees a data transfer rate of n * 10 Gbit / s (the initial capacity of the system is 40 × 10 Gbit / s) and will be the geographically shortest route between Germany and Russia. The Baltic Highway Infrastructure is an alternative transfer route for the networks of the former Nordland Route (Russia-Sweden-Germany) and the South Route (Russia-Ukraine-Germany).

Wi-fi

Lattelecom ensures the possibility of using a fast and stable internet connection outdoors through public Wi-Fi . There are currently more than 2,700 Wi-Fi access points available in Latvia.

Lattelecom TV

In 2011, Lattelecom became the largest TV service provider in the Baltic States , reaching 230,000 pay TV customers through subscriptions to one of the company's three TV services - DVB-T , Interactive TV and Internet TV .

Since March 1, 2011, the company has been offering Internet television for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers , and thus became the first provider in the Baltic States to offer television on four different types of screens - not just on conventional televisions, but also on computers , Tablet PCs and cell phones.

Interactive television

A new generation of television that enables interactivity gives customers the choice of what they want to see and when. Lattelecom Interactive TV is an HDTV service that offers various functions such as virtual video rental, timeshift, recording of programs and films, etc. The Interactive TV signal is transmitted over a broadband Internet connection, which provides access to both the Internet and TV via a single cable (telephone cable). From the customer's point of view, this means that no additional cables or a satellite antenna have to be installed.

Digital terrestrial TV

Since the beginning of 2009 and after the tendering of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, Lattelecom has been implementing the transition from the analogue to the digital TV transmission system together with the public radio and television center (LVRTC).

Lattelecom Terrestrial TV enables the digital broadcast of TV signals that can be received with a room or house antenna. Existing analog customers who receive TV via an indoor or house antenna must purchase a TV decoder in order to continue to watch TV. According to the planning, terrestrial TV offers free access to all national channels in the country - LTV1, LTV7, LNT, TV3 and TV5.

Internet television

Internet television has been available since 2010 and was initially broadcast on a test basis. Currently, Internet TV can only be received in Latvia. Internet TV on mobile devices has been available since March 2012. It is the first TV service in Latvia that allows you to watch TV not only anytime, anywhere, but also on different devices - PC , tablet computer and smartphone .

The Lattelecom brand

On May 18, 2006 Lattelecom implemented the so-called rebranding, the change of the company image, and replaced the existing company name with a new company logo. By 2006 the company had already undergone a restructuring during which a new company was taken over (SIA Lattelecom Technology) and the change in company image marked the completion of said reorganization - the new company name brought all the companies in the group together into one whole, the directly focused on providing customer service, business process outsourcing to customers and IT&T and application services.

Profits and performance

Lattelecom's turnover in 2011 reached LVL 135.8 million, a decrease of LVL 3.8 million compared to the previous year. TV and Internet services were responsible for the largest increase in sales as the number of subscribers grew rapidly. Data services revenue also increased, while voice call revenue continued to decline. [34] Lattelecom's adjusted pre-tax profit was LVL 47.5 million in 2011 (LVL 45.6 million in 2010), an EBITDA profit margin of 35%. Lattelecom's profit in 2011 was LVL 20.8 million, an increase of 8% over 2010 (LVL 19.3 million).

Number of employees

At the end of 2011, 2,174 people were working for the Lattelecom Group. In various studies in 2011, Lattelecom was presented as one of the best customer service companies in Latvia and in a survey by the WorkingDay Latvija recruitment agency, Lattelecom was ranked 3rd among the most attractive employers.

Social responsibility

Lattelecom implements social support and charity projects. The main areas of support include culture, education and sport. The most important projects currently supported are Iespējamā misija (Mission Possible) and Pieslēdzies, Latvija! (Connect, Latvia!).

Connect, Latvia!

Connect, Latvia! is a unique project in Latvia that gives people over 50 the opportunity to acquire basic PC skills, reducing the number of people who cannot work with a PC or the Internet. 150 groups with more than 1,500 people were organized across Latvia in 2011 to acquire theoretical and practical basics for PC skills. In 2012, IT teachers were recruited for the further training of senior citizens, which increased the number of participants to 6,000.

The advanced training for seniors is organized in small groups - around 14 participants per group. The further training in the groups lasts three days with four lessons each (45 minutes each).
