The Sustainable Building Network Switzerland (NNBS) is a Swiss association that aims to promote and coordinate sustainable building . In this context, it developed and maintains the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS).

history

The NNBS was founded in 2012 on the initiative of several federal offices . It is part of the fourth strategy of the Swiss Federal Council on sustainable development (Sustainable Development Strategy 2016–2019). In 2013, the first version of the standard for sustainable building in Switzerland was presented. It has been revised several times since then. The current version 2.0 was launched at the end of August 2016. At the same time, it was supplemented by a certification process that SGS developed and has been operating ever since.

The first building to be certified on 23 August 2016 was the "Twist Again" service building. It was realized by the contractor Losinger Marazzi for Credit Suisse .

Work and goals

The NNBS's field of work is mainly derived from Goal 2.4 of the Sustainable Development Strategy. This resulted in the following goals for the network:

  • Promote sustainable building and develop the necessary basis for it
  • Bundle forces in this regard at national level and strengthen cooperation between business, education, the public sector, politics and science
  • Promote understanding of sustainable building

The SNBS is also a tool for building and evaluating the sustainability of buildings . It assesses a building using a set of 45 indicators that cover all three areas of sustainability, i.e. economy, society and the environment:

Overview of indicators

Wherever sensible and possible, the sub-concepts for sustainable building that already exist in Switzerland have been integrated. This concerns among other things the relevant contributions of the SIA , the associations eco-Bau and Minergie or the 2000-Watt-Gesellschaft . The standard is a Swiss joint venture and was developed in close cooperation between business, the public sector, specialist organizations and other experts.

Currently, the SNBS can be used for office and residential buildings, both for new buildings and for existing buildings. Mixed uses with commercial space on the ground floor are possible.

The standard and its instruments are freely available and free of charge. The standard can be used in two different ways: On the one hand, a self-assessment can be carried out. On the other hand, a fee-based certification can be obtained, which is carried out by the SGS.
