Neubad (Basel)
The Neubad is a district of Basel . It is an unofficial but generally used name of the neighborhood and so has no official limits. According to general agreement, the Neubad corresponds to parts of the two official districts of Bachletten and Gotthelf and is located around Neuweilerplatz between the French railway, the hiking route and the borders with the Basel-based communities Allschwil and Binningen . The district is characterized by a high proportion of row single-family houses and already had the character of a secondary center in the 1920s.
It is named after the historic Hotel Neubad, which is actually already in Binningen, beyond the city limits. Already in the 17th century it had an important local significance as a bath and as a destination close to the city, although the bath did not offer medicinal water.
