history

The roots of the bank go back to the year 1812. In that year the “Interest-bearing Savings Fund for the Residents of Canton Aargau” was founded by the Society for Patriotic Culture in Canton Aargau. Heinrich Zschokke was a co-founder and active member of both organizations.

The interest-bearing savings bank lives on in the Neue Aargauer Bank, which has set up its statue in the counter hall of the headquarters in Aarau as a token of the grateful memory of one of its founders, Heinrich Zschokke .

The history of NAB has been shaped by a large number of mergers between small and medium-sized banks. In 1995 NAB was finally taken over by Credit Suisse and parts of the Schweizerische Volksbank and Schweizerische Kreditanstalt were subsequently integrated into NAB. The following banking institutions have been incorporated into today's Neue Aargauer Bank over the past 150 years.

  • General Aargau Savings Fund 1812 (first mention)
  • Savings bank company of the Brugg district in 1849
