The property at Neue Friedrichstrasse 6a was a residential building in today 's Elberfeld district of Wuppertal , in the Nordstadt district . It stood in the vicinity of the Diakoniekirche (Kreuzkirche until 2006).

description

The three-storey residential building on Neue Friedrichstrasse , which is the northern extension of Friedrichstrasse , was built in the mid-19th century in half-timbered construction with a gable roof . The house stood on a brick, plastered and partly free-standing basement and has external dimensions of around 9.8 m × 6.8 m.

The two-axis southern gable side facing the street was slated like the facade side facing the courtyard. The building was accessed via a massive flight of stairs with a wrought-iron staircase handrail in the east to the central entrance. Here on this three-axis side, the plastered compartment was visible.

As a typical example of the Bergisch half-timbered construction and an indispensable part of the historical development in the area of the Kreuzkirche in the Elberfelder Nordstadt, the property was a testimony to the history of Elberfeld, as judged by the Lower Monument Authority . On May 18, 1988, the house was added to the city's list of monuments as an architectural monument .

In 2004 the owner received funding from the city and the state to renovate the house. However, these were only partially carried out, and the owner first had to repay the funds that were not used. The lower monument authority, however, endeavored to enforce the order of the renovation.

The building has not been inhabited since around 2005, the condition was dramatic in April 2009: Break-ins in the floor, a life-threatening staircase, insect infestation, permanent water penetration, completely damp bricks, massive fungal infestation, dry rot, a missing wall were named. The owner estimated the renovation costs of the old house at around 400,000 euros, which questioned the economic sense of a complete renovation of the property with around 150 m³ square meters of rentable space and could not be expected of the owner in terms of monument protection.

The demolition request has been approved and the demolition work has already been carried out.
