New Mosque (Oral)

The New Mosque ( Russian Новая мечеть ) is the largest mosque in the Kazakh city of Oral . It was opened in November 2005 after two years of construction and offers space for 1500 worshipers.

The foundation stone for the construction of the mosque was laid on September 15, 2003 by the imam of the mosque, the mayor of Oral and the governor of the Western Kazakhstan region . The mosque's dome is made of stained glass windows from Italy , the carpets were supplied from France , and the white marble in the building is from China .

The construction costs for the project were around 450 million tenge . The two Kazakh oil companies Mangghystaumunaigas and KazMunayGas took over the financing of the mosque . The construction was also financed with the help of foreign funds and a fund set up for this purpose.
