New pizzicato polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neue Pizzicato-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 449). The work was possibly first performed in the Hansa-Saal in Hamburg in the spring of 1892 .

Remarks

Johann Strauss composed this polka for his brother Eduard's concert tour to Hamburg, which lasted from April 3 to May 5, 1892, and gave it to him to perform there. It is not known whether Eduard actually played the work in Hamburg. In Vienna the work was performed on January 10, 1893, together with the operetta Fürstin Ninetta, first as a children's ballet and then as an interlude. The polka is thus firmly integrated into the operetta in the third act as the third from last musical number of the stage work. The New Pizzicato Polka quickly became popular and continues to be performed to this day. The work is not to be confused with the old pizzicato polka from 1869, which Johann and Josef Strauss composed together.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 25 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
