The new drinking hall is a listed building in Bad Wildbad in the Black Forest . Originally built as a spa building, it is now used as an event hall.

history

The first Wildbader Trinkhalle was built in 1878/1879 on the left Enzufer near the then Hotel Bellevue . The partly glazed, partly open cast iron construction was demolished in 1959.

The old pump room could not be heated and could only be used in the summer months. Efforts were made to replace them with a new building as early as the 1920s. Since the old square was too small and at risk of flooding, a location was chosen to the right of the Enz, not far from the Kurtheater . The new drinking hall was built according to plans by Reinhold Schuler under the direction of Otto Kuhn in eight months and inaugurated on July 21, 1934.

Due to the hillside location, a two-storey building was created. The lower part, made of concrete, is used as a café with an outdoor terrace. The hall, which is around 90 meters long and up to 16 meters wide, is on the upper level, which can be reached via outside stairs. The wooden structure is divided into a fountain hall with a drinking fountain, a foyer and a music hall with a stage. The fountain hall is completely glazed to the outside. The elongated foyer is provided with floor-to-ceiling windows; the outer walls are clad with shingles. Inside, the areas were divided by pillars, some of which were later removed.

The new pump room is a cultural monument under monument protection .

use

After the decline in drinking cures , the pump room was no longer needed for its original purpose. Concerts and exhibitions have been held there since the 1950s, and tennis was sometimes played there in winter.

Because of the considerable need for renovation, the state of Baden-Württemberg planned the demolition. From the protests of the population, a support association was established in 2003 to preserve the drinking hall. In 2005 the building became the property of the friends' association. In 2011, the renovation and modernization was completed at a cost of around 1.7 million euros.

As a cultural center drinking hall , the building is used for public and private events. Since 2010 it has also been the venue for the Rossini opera and music festival in Wildbad .
