Neuengammer puncture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neuengammer Durchstich is a 2.6 km long canal in Neuengamme , which connects the two oxbow lakes of the Elbe, Gose Elbe and Dove Elbe , and serves to drain this part of the Vier- und Marschlande .

The canal was built in the 1920s to assist in flood the upper Bille derive and upper Dove Elbe water into the Gose Elbe, store and via the About Schöpfwerk Ochsenwerder with high water levels in the tideabhängige to guide lower Dove Elbe. With the construction of the Tatenberg lock , this function was no longer necessary. In order to reduce the cost of maintenance, the bed width was largely reduced from 25 m to 5 m in the 1960s and at the same time a deepening from 0.50 m to 1.50 m was carried out.

The penetration currently only has a water depth of 50 to 60 cm and is therefore to be dredged again to 1.20 m in the next few years in order to provide the drainage capacity again. The Neuengammer Durchstich is popular with canoeists, as you can take a round trip through the Vierlande through it and over Gose Elbe and Dove Elbe. In the period from April 15 to June 15, however, driving is not permitted for nature conservation reasons.
