New thinking model in physiotherapy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The new thinking model in physiotherapy was introduced as a new concept by Antje Hüter-Becker in the mid-1990s . Antje Hüter-Becker died on May 28, 2016.

In the New Thought Model, physiotherapy is no longer based on the clinical subjects of medicine , but on the organ and functional systems on which physiotherapy works: the movement system, movement development and control, the internal organs and experience and behavior.

The aim is to overcome the mind-body dualism, in which illness is seen primarily as a functional disorder that needs to be repaired. Physiotherapists should examine people holistically ( see also: Holistic Medicine ). German physiotherapy training would not be geared towards holistic therapeutic work. There was allegedly a lack of basic knowledge in psychology, among other things. The superior effectiveness of the methods of the New Thought Model has not yet been tested in clinical studies .

In 1987, when Antje Hüter-Becker was in Heidelberg, the Heidelberg educationalist Volker Lenhart became a consultant for the creation of a curriculum for the Central Association of Physiotherapists.
