The New Castle ( nowy Zamek in Polish ) is located in Żywiec in the powiat Żywiecki in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . The classicist castle is located in the Saybuscher Basin on the right bank of the Soła in the old town of Żywiec.

history

In the years 1485-1500 who built Komorowski in Zywiec instead of a ruined medieval castle , the Old Palace in the style of the early renaissance and made a garden in the Italian style to create. Since the Habsburgs , who acquired Saybusch in 1838, had the New Palace built in the immediate vicinity of the old one, it has remained unchanged since then and has retained its Renaissance character. The New Palace was built in 1885 in the classicism style and expanded in 1895. The client was Albrecht Habsburg , who commissioned the architect Karol Pietschka with the construction. Charles of Austria commissioned the artist Wojciech Kossak to paint paintings that were hung in the castle. Renowned Krakow Art Nouveau artists : Tadeusz Stryjeński and Franciszek Mączyński decorated the interior . Many of the castle's works of art were lost in the world wars. During the course of the Soviet occupation of Poland, Karl Albrecht Habsburg was expropriated and a school moved into the castle, which used the building until 2013. The castle has been a listed building since 1987 . From 2001 until her death in 2012, Karl Albrechts' daughter, Maria Krystyna Altenburg , lived in the castle where she had spent her youth before 1944. In 2014, the Saybuscher Habsburgs abandoned their claims to the return of the castle and the castle park.
