The New Theater Halle as part of the Kulturinsel

The Kulturinsel Halle is a building and cultural complex in Halle (Saale) . It houses next to the New Theater Hall , the puppet theater hall , the studio, the "showcase" and a library. This also includes the café nt and Strieses Biertunnel restaurants .

history

The Halle Kulturinsel was built between 1980 and 2002. Based on the old cinema of the German-Soviet friendship , a whole block of eight buildings has been converted and expanded into a cultural venue. It was shaped by the long-time director Peter Sodann , who found a venue for his ensemble here in the cinema. In 1999 Peter Sodann received the prize of the Association of German Critics for the “Kulturinsel” project.

There was a new theater in Halle before that, which was founded in 1870. After a fire in 1902, it was managed by Eugen Moritz Mauthner until 1912 and was then a warehouse.

Current situation

Since the Thalia Theater was closed in 2012, the ensemble that still exists has also been based on the Kulturinsel. The artistic directors within the Theater, Oper und Orchester GmbH Halle are Matthias Brenner (play hall and Thalia Theater) and Christoph Werner (Puppet Theater Halle).
